Industrial Network Modernization in a Waste-to-Energy Facility: A New Project for IESA Automation

Modernisation des réseaux d'une UVE

As industrial facilities continue their digital transformation journey, modern and reliable communication infrastructures have become essential to operational performance. In the environmental sector, where continuous operation is critical, upgrading industrial networks requires a carefully planned approach to minimize disruptions while maximizing long-term benefits.

IESA Automation is proud to support a new customer in the environmental industry with the modernization of industrial networking infrastructure within a Waste-to-Energy (WtE) facility.

The Challenges of Industrial Network Modernization in Waste-to-Energy Facilities

Waste-to-energy plants play a central role in waste-to-energy conversion. They rely on complex automation systems, control networks, and communication architectures to ensure safe and efficient operations.

As facilities evolve, legacy network infrastructures may limit performance, scalability, and maintainability. Modernizing these systems helps operators:

  • Improve communication between equipment and control systems
  • Increase network reliability and availability
  • Support future digitalization initiatives
  • Facilitate maintenance and troubleshooting activities
  • Enhance operational visibility through advanced monitoring and supervision tools

Successfully implementing these upgrades requires a deep understanding of both industrial processes and existing operational constraints.

Leveraging Expertise in Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering

With extensive experience in industrial automation, electrical engineering, and industrial networking solutions, IESA Automation helps manufacturers and process industries modernize their operational technologies while maintaining production continuity.

For this project, IESA’s scope of work includes several key activities.

Electrical Engineering and Automation Studies

The project begins with engineering studies designed to integrate new network infrastructure into the existing operational environment.

Key activities include:

  • Updating electrical drawings and documentation
  • Reviewing and modifying network architecture
  • Preparing integration studies for new equipment
  • Planning site implementation activities

Installation of Industrial Network Modules and Switches

To improve communication capabilities across the facility, new industrial networking modules and switches will be integrated into existing electrical control panels.

These upgrades will strengthen data exchange between systems while ensuring compatibility with the current infrastructure.

Cable Routing and Network Integration

IESA teams are also responsible for cable installation and network deployment throughout the facility.

This critical phase ensures robust and reliable communications between the various process and control systems operating within the plant.

Site Commissioning

Once installation activities are completed, IESA engineers will perform on-site commissioning to validate system performance and verify that all network components operate as intended.

This step ensures a smooth transition to the upgraded infrastructure while maintaining operational reliability.

Supporting Industrial Digital Transformation

Beyond the technical upgrades themselves, this project is part of a broader digital transformation strategy.

Modern industrial networks provide the foundation for:

  • Advanced SCADA and supervision systems
  • Predictive maintenance initiatives
  • Industrial data analytics
  • Industry 4.0 applications
  • Improved operational efficiency

By combining expertise in automation, electrical engineering, industrial IT, and control systems, IESA Automation helps customers build smarter, more connected, and more efficient production facilities.

Building Long-Term Partnerships in the Environmental Industry

This new project further strengthens IESA Automation’s presence in the environmental sector and highlights our ability to deliver complex industrial modernization projects.

We would like to thank our customer for their confidence and partnership, as well as the teams whose expertise contributes to the success of this project.
