IESA contributes to the Rennes Metro extension: a ventilation and smoke extraction project in confined environments

ventilation et désenfumage du métro de Rennes

Ensuring fire safety and maintaining air quality in an underground metro tunnel are critical challenges for passenger and operator safety.
As part of the Rennes Metro extension project, led by Trajectoires, IESA is taking part in the implementation of a new ventilation and smoke extraction system designed to meet the specific constraints of a confined underground environment.

A major project in the ventilation and smoke extraction market

Specialized in industrial automation, electrical engineering, and industrial simulation, IESA brings its technical expertise to complex projects in confined environments.
Alongside Yvroud, a leading player in high-power ventilation systems for underground infrastructures, IESA is involved in the Rennes Metro extension to ensure proper air renewal and guarantee smoke extraction in case of fire.

This extension project aims to increase train storage capacity and improve the line’s throughput, while complying with the highest safety and air quality standards.

Full project scope: control, command, and power systems for safety

IESA is responsible for the design and supply of the control-command and power system for the tunnel’s ventilation fans, covering the entire project scope:

  • Engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation, and commissioning,
  • Industrial automation: interface with the metro’s supervision system and the firefighters’ control room, full functional tests and smoke extraction trials,
  • Electrical engineering: cable sizing, electrical cabinet design and manufacturing, schematics, and on-site installation.

This project highlights IESA’s ability to deliver turnkey solutions that ensure reliability, safety, and performance in critical infrastructures where fire safety and operational continuity are essential.

A collaborative effort within the GCC Group

This project also strengthens the synergy between the entities of the GCC Construction / Energy / Real Estate Group.
IESA and Yvroud, sister companies within the group, are combining their expertise to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable ventilation systems for underground infrastructures.
A strong example of how complementary technical know-how within the GCC Group serves major public infrastructure projects.

Expertise, innovation, and safety at the core of IESA’s projects

With its mastery of control-command systems, supervision, and industrial electrical engineering, IESA supports its clients in technically demanding projects such as tunnels, energy plants, waste treatment facilities, and nuclear sites.

Through its participation in the Rennes Metro extension, IESA confirms its position as a trusted partner for safe and efficient underground infrastructures.
